Stroke Hub Wales (SHW) Launch
On Thursday November 9th , 2017 Dr Federico Villagra attended the launch of the Stroke Hub Wales (SHW) representing Aberystwyth University. Dr Villagra, a lecturer in the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) and the Well-being and health Assessment Research Unit has been nominated as a member of the advisory Committee. The advisory Committee is in charge of advice and guidance ensuring the success of SHW. “The Stroke Network Wales is funded by the Welsh Government and aims to achieve high impact research to prevent and reduce the debilitating impact of Stroke in Wales” (SHW, 2017).
Dr Villagra: “One of the initial main priority of the Stroke Hub Wales was to seek out key individuals across Wales to form part of the SHW advisory group. The Advisory Committee considered me a well suited to the role as a member of the advisory group and I was invited to come on board as part of the group. It’s a privilege to be part of this important new Hub in Wales”.
“The objective of the Stroke Hub Wales is bringing together stroke experts from Wales to enhance research and innovation to help prevent and reduce the debilitating impact of strokes. The promotion of stroke research can improve quality of life, impact patient care and save resources. The ultimate goal of research is making Stroke a preventable and treatable disease and improving the quality of life and wellbeing of Stroke patients” (SHW, 2017).
