Future Foods


Future foods is an exciting program that aims at providing world-class expertise in food science, technology and nutrition R&D to the Welsh food and drink businesses that are seeking to develop healthy, marketable products.

This collaborative program enables food and drink companies in Wales to have a chance at boosting their overall competitiveness, which will allow them to trade with confidence, knowing that the products they produce have been researched, tested, and given the green light.

The future foods programme supports commercial food and drink manufacturers in Wales who wish to engage with collaborative R&D projects. Support is tailored with a focus on:

  • Collaborative R&D
  • Effective commercialisation
  • Sustainable growth
  • Improving competiveness
  • Underpin future growth and sustainability

This program will focus on developing special interest groups (SIGs) on topics such as:

  • Green Protein / Alternative Protein
  • Controlled Environment Agriculture
  • (Agri-Tech) Oats and Grains
  • Seaweed & Algae
  • Dairy Advances
  • Livestock
  • Drinks
  • Engineering and Processing

This project is funded through the European rural development fund (ERDF) and supported by the welsh government and is delivered through Aberystwyth University and BIC Innovation through the Nutri-Wales cluster.
